Fishing NZ privacy policy
Effective 30 October 2026
Fishing NZ has no account, ads, tracking or analytics. What you save stays on your iPhone, and the app sends nothing about you to Pensive Frog Games or anyone else.
What stays on your iPhone
Your marks (with their notes, depth, folder and photos), your catch log (with each catch's position, time, conditions and photo), trip tracks, saved places, the places and pins you opened in the last 30 days, your settings, and the forecasts and charts the app has downloaded are kept on your iPhone. Photos you add are chosen with Apple's photo picker, so the app sees only the ones you pick. The widgets show your saved places from a copy kept on your iPhone. Device backups, such as iCloud Backup, may include app data according to your settings; downloaded charts are left out. Deleting the app removes its local data.
Location
Only when you tap a location button does your iPhone ask whether the app may use your location while you use it. Your location is used on your iPhone to show where you are and what is near you, to mark a spot or log a catch where you are, to give the distance and bearing to a mark, to record a trip's track, and to show your position for a Mayday call. While you record a trip, head for a mark or have the anchor alarm on, the app keeps following your position with your iPhone locked, with iOS's location indicator showing, until you stop. Your location is never sent to Pensive Frog Games or anyone else unless you share it. You can change this at any time in Settings.
Forecasts and charts
The app downloads forecasts, its list of places and chart updates from Pensive Frog Games' data site, boatable-conditions.pages.dev, hosted by Cloudflare. It asks for the files of the regions you look at or have saved places or marks in, sometimes in the background while the app is closed, and the requests carry nothing else about you. Cloudflare, which serves them, handles network traffic such as IP addresses under its own privacy policy. Maps are Apple's, under Apple's privacy policy.
Notifications
If you turn on heads-up alerts in Settings (with Pro), the app checks the forecast for your saved places on your iPhone and schedules a notification when one looks good. The app also uses notifications on your iPhone for the anchor alarm, arriving at a mark you're heading for, and a back-ashore reminder you set. Your iPhone asks your permission the first time. Nothing is sent anywhere to make them happen.
Links and sharing
Directions open Google Maps (its app or website) or Apple Maps, as you choose in Settings, with the place's position. When you share a mark, a trip, the catch log or a trip plan, or copy a position, it goes only where you send it (Messages, AirDrop, Mail and so on). Shared marks include their position, depth and notes, and shared places and plans include a Google Maps link. Files you open in the app (GPX, KML or CSV) stay on your iPhone. Google, Apple and other websites you open handle that under their own privacy policies.
Pro
Pro is a one-time in-app purchase through Apple's App Store, which handles it and your payment details under Apple's privacy policy. The app only learns, on your iPhone, whether you own it. There is no trial: the free features are free for everyone.
Apple may provide TestFlight feedback and diagnostic information under its own privacy terms and your choices.
If you email support, Pensive Frog Games receives the information you choose to send and keeps it only as needed to answer you. Contact support@pensivefrog.games to request deletion of support correspondence.
The online policy describes the current release. Any change to what the app collects will require an updated policy before it is introduced.
